About NGV Australia
The home of Australian and First Nations art and design, representing a history spanning 65,000 years to the present day.
The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia presents a year-round program of exhibitions, festivals and events, and is the country’s only public art gallery dedicated to the presentation of art and design by Australian and First Nations practitioners.
At NGV Australia, visitors can experience the NGV’s encyclopaedic collection of Australian art and design, which features works by the likes of Tom Roberts, Frederick McCubbin, Grace Cossington-Smith, John Brack, Margaret Preston, and Grant and Mary Featherston.
NGV Australia is also home to the Gallery’s globally significant collection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art and design, which comprises more than 4,700 works of art from across mainland Australia and the Torres Strait. Revealing the long history of creativity on the Australian continent that pre-dates the arrival of Europeans, the NGV’s First Nations collection features work by Emily Kam Kngwarray, Rover Thomas, Sally Gabori, William Barak and Destiny Deacon.
