This Australia Day public holiday, Fed Square in partnership with the Victorian Government, are presenting a day of inclusive, family friendly activities that everyone can enjoy.

You’ll find a wide range of fun and engaging activities for the whole family. The Atrium will be home to a community workshop zone, while The Edge will feature stage productions that are perfect for all ages. The Main Stage will host a variety of music performances, and the day will end with a screening of the AO Women’s Semi Final at 7:30pm.

And that’s not all! We’ll have food trucks on site all day, plus a variety of freebies* like coffee and smoothies, ice creams, and popcorn. And best of all, all of these activities are completely free, so you can enjoy a day of family fun without breaking the bank. So mark your calendars and join us at Fed Square on 26 January!

Kofi Kunkpe Music

12pm-12.45pm

Get ready to groove and move with Kofi Kunkpe Music (KKM). KKM brings the best African artists from Ghana, Gambia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo to showcase traditional instruments and street dance performances. Join in on the fun and experience the rich culture of Africa.

Junkyard Beats

1pm-1.45pm

Using recycled materials and ordinary household objects, this talented crew will turn pots, pans, sticks, and more into musical instruments and get you moving with their dynamic performance. You won’t believe the sounds they can create. And at the end of the show, you’ll have the chance to join in the fun and participate in an epic jam with your very own recycled instruments.

Footscray Gypsy Orchestra

2pm-2.45pm

The Footscray Gypsy Orchestra bring the sounds and songs from Eastern Europe to the Balkans and beyond celebrating music from the regions in a dozen regional and national languages. Inspiring, evocative, exuberant and heartwarming – this group delivers in spades.

Crown Heights

3pm-3.45pm

Formed in 2019, Crown Heights are a a six-piece reggae band based in Melbourne. This diverse group brings together members from Jamaica, London, New Zealand, Brazil, Samoa, and Sri Lanka to create a unique and global sound. Fronted by three lead vocalists, including Marvin Priest, son of legendary reggae artist Maxi Priest, this band features some of Melbourne’s top musicians.

Soul Brazil

4pm-4.30pm

A journey through the vibrant cultures of South and Central America, with dance styles ranging from lambada and samba to salsa and capoeira, Soul Brazil will transport you from Brazil to Cuba and beyond. Founded with the goal of sharing the true culture of South America with the world, they are not to be missed. Get ready to experience the passion and energy of this beautiful part of the world through dance!

Daryl McKenzie Jazz Orchestra

5pm-7pm (90 minutes with a break)

The Daryl McKenzie Jazz Orchestra is an Australian cultural icon, bringing together Melbourne’s most exceptional instrumentalists to perform original jazz music as well as accompany some of the country’s finest local and international performances across multiple genres and mediums.

Alphabet of Awesome Science!

A scientific race through the alphabet — where awesome words inspire awesome science! 

Join professors Lexi Con and Noel Edge (the Word Nerd and the Science Freak) for a thrilling voyage through the alphabet — where sesquipedalian words inspire mind-blowing scientific surprises! It’s a tongue-twisting race from A to Z that’s equal parts explosive, messy, hilarious, fascinating and gross. Brace yourself for an hour of carefully crafted alphabetical, scientifical (award-winning!) chaos — that floats, flies, squirts, sprays, ignites and erupts!

Reflection – Playable Streets

It’s time to reflect, on a year, on a thought, on anything at all! Reflection is a space for people to reflect both literally and metaphorically and we need your help.

Reflection is a large-scale interactive installation that invites participants to draw and write on brightly coloured mirrored acrylic panels. Reflection encourages participants of all ages to see themselves within the context of their community.

Indian Henna Hand painting workshop (SOLD OUT)
