Fed Square Gets Colourful For IDAHOBIT

10 May, 2018

Fed Square will be awash with live entertainment by some of Melbourne’s most celebrated artists, performers and voices on Thursday 17 May to commemorate International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT).

In a special free evening concert at Fed Square, audiences can expect to be entertained by the soulful sounds of Melbourne’s remarkable Mojo Juju and Dani Sib.  The spectacular Queen of Queer Cabaret Yana Alana and gender transcendent diva Mama Alto will grace the stage; as well as dancers and performers Adolfo Aranjuez and Raina Peterson.

Accordionist and experimental avant-composer, William Elm will create an intricate and compelling soundscape, and we’ll hear from disability and LGBTIQ rights activist, writer and educator, Jax Jacki Brown.  There’ll be a special performance by Samoan fa’afafine/ trans woman of color, Amao Leota Lu; and it wouldn’t be a party without the astounding burlesque and cabaret performer Ana Diction.

On May 17, 1990, the World Health Assembly of the World Health Organisation approved the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD 10), which no longer listed homosexuality as a diagnosis.  International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism & Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) was launched in 2004 to celebrate LGBTIQ people globally.

Fed Square is working with a number of partner organisations to host this free event to celebrate LBQTI+ diversity on this international day of recognition.
