The Light in Winter Launch

Celebrate The Light in Winter’s tenth anniversary with an opening event combining music, bright lights and ceremony.

The fireside celebrations and the start of The Light in Winter begin with a Welcome to Country from Indigenous Elders and the first sparks of Leempeeyt Weeyn’, the Indigenous Campfire designed by Vicki Couzens for the very first The Light in Winter ten years ago.

Following the lighting of the Campfire, artist Reko Rennie will light up the Fed Square facades with his kaleidoscopic projection, Federation².

Mission Songs Project will take to the stage with a rare collection of early Australian Indigenous contemporary songs composed and performed between 1900 to 1999. Indigenous artists including Archie Roach, Lou Bennett and Karrina Nolan will join curator Jessie Lloyd on stage, accompanied on guitar and vocals by Monica Weightman and Robert Champion.
