Could This Be Melbourne’s Best Beer Garden?
Riverland is an iconic Melbourne bar and cafe located on the banks of the Yarra in the historic Federation Wharf vaults on the edge of Federation Square.
The Federation Wharf vaults were built in 1889 and have played a major part in Melbourne’s waterfront history. Riverland opened its doors in 2006 but prior to that the vaults have been home to many businesses including a boat builder, ferry service, coffee importer and model aeroplane manufacturer.
Designed by leading Melbourne architects, Six Degrees, Riverland provides a relaxed space with a warm atmosphere where people can enjoy the company of friends and take in a view that includes rowers, picturesque gardens and the Arts Centre precinct.
Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Riverland’s menus cater for a variety of tastes. There’s nothing like a BBQ on the Yarra and the gourmet sausages with caramelised onions, tangy sauerkraut and sweet tomato sauce from the outdoor BBQ are a big hit. Come down and enjoy the relaxed hospitality.
Special Features: Gluten-free and vegetarian available, heated outdoor seating area, waterfront views
Access: Riverland has lift access and is wheelchair accessible. For further details visit, Accessiblity at Fed Square.
Awards + Reviews:
Sunday Herald Sun: 5 of the Best Barbecues (5 September 2010)
The Age Cheap Eats 2010: Melbourne Bar of the Year
“Riverland is the effortless all-rounder you can’t help but like, with its prime Yarra River possie and Six Degrees fit-out. The outdoor barbecue food is exactly what you want with a tall glass of tap beer.”
Sydney Morning Herald – Sydney Magazine (October 2010)
“The decidedly European feel to the place is only heightened by the bar snack of choice, an organic sausage with onions and sauerkraut that’s dished up from an outdoor kitchen at one end of the Riverland spread. Add plenty of reasonable beer and wine, city lights reflected on the surface of the river and a suitably laid-back waterside vibe and there’s little reason not to head to Riverland.”
The Age – M Magazine 26 September 2010
“Grab a snack platter with pate, terrine and cured meats and find a perch inside the atmospheric brick warehouse or hang about the barbecue for a sausage. The Yarra bank location comes into its own as the weather warms up.”
