Anything But Square Festival powered by Siemens

A Kaleidoscope of sensory art, food and entertainment experiences showcasing the vibrancy and uniqueness of Melbourne’s favourite city square in partnership with global powerhouse, Siemens.

After years dedicated to reducing water waste and energy consumption, Fed Square became a carbon neutral precinct in 2015.

Some of these savings are a result from both simple and highly innovative initiatives, supported by Siemens.

A co-generation plant underneath Fed Square uses natural gas to generate the electricity that powers all aspects of the Anything But Square Festival.

Co-generation means the combined production of both electricity and useful heat at the same time. It’s a more thermally efficient use of fuel than electricity generation alone and saves 4470kg of CO2 emissions every year, the equivalent of taking 1,000 cars off our roads.

Other sustainability initiatives include solar panels on the roof of Fed Square, a forward thinking approach to lighting design, as well as a water conservation plan.

A powerful cloud based digital platform allows Siemens to keep track of how these initiatives are performing – optimising operations over time and making Fed Square even more energy efficient.
